First discovery dates” in the district office: young people explore career opportunities!

There is currently a breath of fresh air in the Haßberge district when it comes to career orientation. On November 14, 2025, the “Discoverer Dates” took place for the first time in the Haßberge district office, an event that is intended to give young people exciting insights into the world of various apprenticeships. Under the leadership of District Administrator Wilhelm Schneider, Managing Director Marcus Fröhlich and Training Manager Angelika Berthold, the participating students received a warm welcome.

A total of eight young people from the district took part in this two-day event. The aim was to gain practical experience in the district office, which would enable the young people to get to know the authority's processes better. This included, among other things, an informative overview of the structure of the district office, which was led by trainee Grace Ankenbrand, who also presented various apprenticeships.

The students had the opportunity to work on interesting tasks. For example, they could fill out an application for shared custody or report a pothole on a county road. Practical activities, such as assembling a computer keyboard or paving an area independently, were also part of this program. The highlight was the tour of completed construction sites in Haßfurt, which gave the young explorers an understanding of the diversity of work in administration.

The “discoverer dates” are an example of the new career orientation measures that are being introduced in the Haßberge district. This week of open companies will be supplemented by other initiatives, such as “Speeddating” for career orientation, which will take place on October 22nd and 23rd, 2025 in the “Rainbow” discotheque in Knetzgau. Companies and young people can come into direct contact and thus create a stronger connection between young people and the regional economy. Registration is done through schools so that entire classes can take part. These events help young people discover their strengths and find out which career fields suit them.

Goals and visions

The fundamental objective of these numerous initiatives is to strengthen the bond between young people and the regional economy and to promote the supply of skilled workers. The career orientation program offered by the BMBF is another pillar of these efforts. Here the participants go through various tasks, discover their strengths and experience practice-oriented professional days that optimally prepare them for professional life.

The Haßberge district seems well equipped to not only provide its young people with insights, but also to actively accompany them on their path into the professional world. The initial feedback is promising: a final feedback discussion took place at the end of the days, where the participants were able to share their experiences.

For anyone who is interested in finding out more about career orientation options, the “Practically unbeatable” portal as well as other resources such as the career choice pass or the “I’ll do it” program offer valuable information and support for a successful entry into professional life. With these initiatives it is certain that “there is something going on” to offer young people the best possible conditions for the future.
