November 11th is finally here and the fifth season has officially begun in Bavaria! At 11:11 a.m. sharp, the fools in the Günzburg district ring in the carnival season. As the Augsburger Allgemeine reports, the number eleven is not only celebrated as a schnapps number, but also stands for the culture and joie de vivre that characterize this special occasion. Thirteen pairs of princes reigned last season, and who knows what new royals await the fools this year.
The installation of the new prince couples traditionally takes place after the previous regents have said goodbye. In Burgau the celebrations can begin with the margrave couple, while in Leipheim the Güssen prince couple kicks things off. Several carnival societies are presenting their new rulers this evening:
- Deisenhauser Carneval Club (DCC): Um 18:00 Uhr im Vereinsheim Breitenthal.
- Leipheimer Haufen: Um 18:11 Uhr im Schützenhaus Leipheim, Veranstaltung öffentlich.
- KC Ballustika: Interne Vorstellung in der Lenderstuben, Krönungsball am 15. November um 20:00 Uhr im Adlersaal.
The upcoming enthronement events
On November 15th, the atmosphere will continue to build when the Offonia companies from Offingen and Haldenwanger Gaudi crown their new rulers. A service at 5:30 p.m. in the St. Georg Church will ensure the physical well-being of those present, followed by a celebration in the clubhouse in Offingen. Haldenwanger Gaudi also invites you to the enthronement at 7:00 p.m. in the Citizens' Hall of the town hall.
On the same night, the Kötzer-Narren and Burgavia from Burgau will also introduce their new rulers. While the KNC delivers its program in the clubhouse at 8 p.m., the Capuchin Hall remains reserved for the enthronement of Burgavia with invited guests.
Carnival throughout Bavaria
Carnival in Bavaria is much more than just a series of events. The various traditional celebrations are an expression of joy of life and togetherness. In Regensburg, prince couples and guards stormed the town hall at 11:11 a.m., while the new royals were ceremoniously welcomed in Weiden and other cities. Here life has its finger on the pulse of Bavarian culture, like that BR reported on the numerous stormings of town hall and proclamations.
What is particularly remarkable is the variety of costumes and celebrations, which range from traditional parades to exuberant parties. As Bavarian tradition dictates, the streets are decorated with colorful masks and happy participants. Of course, delicious donuts and other specialties should not be missing, because food plays an important role in carnival.
