World Cup anticipation: Kandahar slope ready, stands sold out!
Six weeks until the big ski spectacle in Garmisch-Partenkirchen: On February 28th and March 1st the time has finally come. The Alpine World Cup Mecca will be the best stage for the best skiers in the world for the men's downhill and super-G events. This event on the legendary Kandahar is a highlight in the sports calendar, especially as it takes place after the Olympic Games in Milan. The organizing committee, led by Martina Betz, has its hands full preparing the event perfectly. Mercury reports, that the stands for the men's downhill race are already sold out - clear evidence of the anticipation and interest of the fans.
The Kandahar piste, which at 3.3 km is one of the most famous downhill runs in the world, is already in excellent condition. The necessary nets are anchored in the snow and the snow preparations have been completed, reports Anton Huber from the Bavarian Zugspitzbahn. In order to keep the slope in top shape, the work was spread over two weeks. The fine-tuning begins on February 9th, after regular ski operations, and will ensure that everything runs smoothly when the athletes hit the track.
Preparations and challenges
Garmisch-Partenkirchen has established itself over the years as one of the most famous winter sports resorts in Germany. The city not only hosted the 1936 Winter Olympics, but also the World Ski Championships in 1978 and 2011. Medals were also awarded on the Kandahar and the neighboring Gudiberg. Unfortunately, it is unfortunate that the Gudiberg is not included in the race program for the 2025/26 season - the focus is clearly on the Kandahar. Snow depths informed, that the steepest part here has a gradient of 90 percent, which provides a thrill for athletes and spectators.
Before the real competitions start, downhill training will take place on February 26th and 27th. Saturdays and Sundays will be the best time in the world to watch the athletes on the track. The races start at 11:30 a.m., which only increases the excitement.
Ticket information and marketing
Ticket sales are in full swing - while seats for the men's downhill are already sold out, standing room tickets for the Super-G are still available. The marketing campaign for the World Cup also picked up speed more quickly than usual this year. The advertising drum was started four weeks earlier than usual in order to attract even more fans to the event. The official website ensures that all important information is available and users can enter their personal data securely.
The anticipation for the Ski World Cup is at its peak, and Garmisch-Partenkirchen impressively shows that it is firmly in the saddle in the world of winter sports. The city will continue to play an important role in the future 2026/27 season with a double weekend in the provisional racing calendar. Let’s stay excited about what awaits us!
