Bundeswehr practices mountain air rescue – beware of found ammunition!

In the next few days things will get busy again in the Garmisch-Partenkirchen district. The district office provides information about an important Bundeswehr exercise that will take place from November 19th to 20th, 2025. SAR mountain air rescue is practiced with a helicopter, and the whole thing takes place in the impressive backdrop of the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains as well as at the Mittenwald training area. A real highlight for everyone who relies on exciting maneuvers and successful rescue missions!

The exact times for this exercise are set: Everything starts on November 19th at 9:00 a.m. and lasts until November 20th at 4:00 p.m. It is also noted on this occasion that external landings of the helicopter are possible depending on the weather. It is therefore advisable to keep your eyes open and, if necessary, pay attention to your surroundings.

Crowd control and security measures

The public is strongly advised to stay away from the training troops' facilities in order to ensure the safety of everyone involved. Finally, there can also be dangers from military explosives left behind in the training area. If someone comes across such items, it is important to contact the police immediately and keep their hands away from these dangerous finds.

It is also important for residents to note that possible damage caused by the exercise must be reported to the responsible municipality within one month of the end of the exercise. However, this only applies if this damage has not already been paid for by the land damage officer or has been repaired by the armed forces' damage teams. If you would like to find out all the details in advance, you can find further information on the Alpin FM website, which reports on the exercise: Alpin FM reports that….
