20 years of BMW Motorrad Days: Garmisch is celebrating the biker event of the year!
The anticipation for the 20th edition of the Motorcycle Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen is huge. From July 4th to 6th, 2025, the alpine backdrop will once again be transformed into a paradise for motorcycle lovers. Preparations are already in full swing; The tents are currently being set up on the local mountain, like Mercury reported.
“The number of tents has increased from 20 in 2001 to a remarkable 118 this year,” says project manager Michael Nardin, who has been there since 2001 and has seen the event’s steady growth first hand. The total tent area has also quadrupled from 3,000 to an impressive 11,500 square meters. This speaks to the ever-growing popularity of this world-famous event, which attracted around 40,000 visitors in 2024, after a five-year break.
An event in a class of its own
The Motorcycle Days are considered one of the most important motorcycle events in Europe and are the BMW Group's largest regular customer event BMD Exhibitors explained. The event offers, among other things, test drives, product presentations as well as various action shows and live music. BMW is planning an expanded program this year that includes two large Corsos and enduro taster training. Over 300 BMW Motorrad employees will be on site to look after the guests and implement the unique offers.
The varied program for the three days includes various highlights: On Friday, July 4th, enduro training and a police rodeo are on the agenda, complemented by live music. Saturday will be rounded off with a motorcycle parade, stunt shows and live music again. On Sunday, July 6th, there will be a motorcycle service and a classic corso.
Mixed reactions from politicians
The event is not only popular. Walter Rutz, the head of tourism, sees the motorcycle days as valuable attention for Garmisch-Partenkirchen, while the Green parliamentary group expresses mixed opinions. While there is positive feedback about the event, there are also concerns about environmental impact and increased visitor numbers. One suggestion from the Greens is to increase the use of electric motorcycles during the parades in order to reduce environmental impact.
Compared to other events in Germany, the Motorcycle Days in Garmisch-Partenkirchen offer an incomparable atmosphere. Various events have taken place in recent years, such as the 26th meeting of the Friends of the Africa Twin in Burg Lißberg or the Horizons Unlimited meeting with travel lectures and workshops. However, the Motorcycle Days, with their authentic flair and unique driving experiences in the middle of nature, remain an outstanding attraction for many motorcycle enthusiasts, not least because of the picturesque backdrop of the Bavarian Alps touring rider emphasized.
