30 years of mobility: Fürstenfeldbruck is revolutionizing public transport!

On November 11, 2025, the “Public Mobility” department in the Fürstenfeldbruck district office will look back on three exciting and successful decades. Founded in August 1995, the mobility offering in the district has developed enormously. What once began with a few timetables and individual student buses now includes 51 bus routes and 7 on-demand services that ensure flexible and reliable transport for citizens.

The impressive tally of 14 million passengers in 2024 speaks volumes – in 2006 there were still 5.3 million. This clearly shows how high the acceptance of public transport is in the district. One reason for this is the systematic introduction of modern technologies. Since 2022, the MVV buses have been running in a new, modern look and are equipped with functions such as real-time data, WiFi, USB ports and air conditioning. The move towards sustainability is underpinned by the introduction of 16 electric bus routes in regular service since April 2023 and the planned conversion of diesel buses to alternative drives by 2030.

Excellent accessibility and conversion to sustainability

The district received an outstanding award in 2023 when it achieved first place nationwide in accessibility. This accessibility is to be further improved from 2026 by converting the on-demand lines (RufTaxis) to battery operation as “FLEX lines”. Hermann Seifert, who has headed the department since its founding, emphasizes the importance of strategic planning and continuous development for mobility in the district.

The introduction of seven express bus routes linking train stations with S-Bahn and U-Bahn connections is another step in the right direction. Not only are the technical innovations remarkable, the constant increase in passenger numbers also shows that citizens are increasingly appreciating and using public transport.

During a visit by District Administrator Thomas Karmasin to the staff office team, strategic goals for further development and the challenges of modern mobility were discussed. Current autonomous driving projects are also on the agenda, so the future of public transport in the Fürstenfeldbruck district looks extremely exciting.
