New parking machines in Freising: frustration and confusion among users!

Since mid-September 2025, the introduction of new parking machines in Freising has been causing lively discussions and a certain degree of frustration among users. The old machines were getting old and could no longer offer modern software updates or card payment functions. This led to the city having to purchase new equipment. The new, solar-powered machines were installed at central locations in the city, including Wippenhauser Straße, Kammergasse, District Office and Viehmarktplatz, to name just a few. So reported Mercury.

A big change for drivers: users now have to enter their license plate number at the new machines before they can pay. There are a variety of payment options – either with cash, credit card or via the newly introduced “Parkster – Easy Parking App”, which has been in operation since July. Practical: Printable parking tickets are a thing of the past. Parking surveillance has access to license plate data, which is intended to simplify control. However, anyone who enters their license plate incorrectly will face a ticket.

Parking fees and free time for electric vehicles

The new parking fees also surprised some users. 20 minutes cost 50 cents, while one hour costs 1.50 euros and two hours cost a maximum of 3 euros. It is no longer mandatory to leave a receipt in the vehicle. However, you still have the option of requesting a receipt by email or scanning it via a QR code. These changes were continuously communicated by the Stadtwerke Parkhaus und Verkehrs-GmbH, as the city of Freising states on its website freising.de highlights.

Particular attention is paid to vehicles with E license plates. According to the Electromobility Act, they are allowed to park free of charge for the first two hours, provided they have a parking disc. This measure is intended to promote the use of environmentally friendly means of transport and is a positive step for e-mobility in the region.

User feedback and challenges

However, many users feel overwhelmed by this new technology. Reports of difficulties when using the machines for the first time are not uncommon. Confusion about the entry procedures and the new payment options is commonplace. The city hopes that the initial challenges will soon subside and that the new parking meters will become easier to understand for drivers.

The city of Freising wants to meet the requirements of modern mobility with innovative technology and a fresh approach to parking space management. However, whether this will be successful right away remains to be seen. But as the saying goes? Practice makes perfect! We're looking forward to seeing how it's used in the coming weeks.
