Bauhof Freising: Everything you need to know about winter service shortly before snow deployment!
The cold season is just around the corner and the final preparations for winter service are underway in the Freising district. The construction yard, headed by Thomas Thieme and his deputy Stefan Karl, ensures that the roads in the district are safe to drive on, even in snow and slippery conditions. Winter service will officially begin at the end of November. Until then, both operational and route plans will be worked out meticulously. There is close cooperation with three external service providers in order to optimally coordinate the operations.
An important aspect is the delivery of the salt boxes, which is also due at the end of November. In addition, a snow fence will be erected at the beginning of December to ensure readiness for the coming snowfalls. Winter service in Zolling has been carried out with an FS30 for over 25 years, which has proven itself over this time.
Diverse tasks of the construction yard
But winter service is only part of the extensive tasks of the building yard. In addition to clearing the streets, we also take care of maintaining the greenery surrounding the streets and repairing cracks and clearing ditches. The construction yard is also on duty in the event of severe weather damage, such as can occur during storm events. A landslide was recently worked on, where the roadway was secured and appropriate structures were installed.
In the summer there is also an oil spill standby, in which external companies are called in as soon as major pollution occurs. Two Fendt tractors are used to maintain the roadside greenery. In particular, the fight against invasive species such as ragweed represents another challenge that the building yard bravely faces.
Challenges and future prospects
One of the most pressing problems is ash dieback. As a precautionary measure, some trees have to be cut down, while at the same time 25 to 30 new trees are planted annually. The construction yard also takes care of the maintenance of the Isar cycle path, which extends almost to Munich, as well as adjacent facilities such as Kranzburger Lake and the youth campsite.
The public's feedback on the work of the construction yard is mostly positive, despite the frequent discussions about winter service. You can tell that the service plays an important role in the everyday lives of citizens. The construction yard's equipment is considered sufficient, but long delivery times for new vehicles pose a challenge. Future purchases are aimed at an additional 50,000 liter brine tank, a digital register as well as the construction of a new workshop pit and a solar roof. There are currently 34 employees working at the construction yard, including various skilled workers.
Meanwhile, in the digital world, MacOS Sonoma 14 has appeared on the market, which can be downloaded directly from Apple servers. The installer called “InstallAssistant.pkg” offers a variety of options: everything from upgrading other Macs to installing in virtual machines is included. The direct download is a welcome alternative for those who want to quickly upgrade their systems. Further information can be found at OSX Daily.
Apple's software update function is also a useful option for users. Updates and upgrades can be downloaded much more easily and quickly. Compatibility is of course an important criterion. For those who would like to stay up to date, please refer to the Apple Support page, which provides comprehensive information.
