A wire-haired dachshund experienced a moment of shock on Sunday afternoon in the Kumpfmühlweiher in Ebersberg. Residents noticed the dog clinging to a fallen tree in the water and appeared unable to get to shore. The Ebersberg police suspect that the dachshund jumped into the pond and overestimated his strength. While the residents discovered the dog, a strenuous rescue operation ensued in which the patrol crew from the Ebersberg police station was quickly called to help to deal with the animal emergency.

In order to free the dachshund, the police officers had to balance precisely: they climbed the tree to which the dog was hanging and took action. In order to free the beloved four-legged friend, residents gave the officers a small pair of scissors to trim the tree's branches. After a skillful operation, the police quickly rescued the dachshund from the element. Although the dog was initially slightly shocked, he quickly recovered and was safely released to his concerned owners. “We were able to find the owners through local residents,” said a police spokesman. The dachshund was then brought home safely in the patrol car and the excitement came to a happy end.

An unexpected adventure

What got the dachshund in this predicament anyway? According to police investigations, the brave dog had apparently dug under one of his owners' fences and wandered for a few hundred meters before falling into the pond. Luckily, he was quickly discovered by alert residents and the police.

Such animal rescues are not only commonplace in Bavaria. In Mallorca, too, it is often reported how emergency services help animals out of difficult situations. In a similar case, firefighters there rescued three dogs from a burning apartment occupied by “okupas.” This shows that love for animals transcends borders and we all stand up for our animal friends whenever necessary.

In Ebersberg, this Sunday can be seen as a happy day for the dachshund and his owners, who were ultimately able to return home from this little adventure unscathed. A big thank you to the attentive residents and the police, who have once again proven how important teamwork and quick action are to save lives - human and animal.
