Carnival opening in Donauwörth: Prince couples and traffic chaos!

On Monday evening at 5:00 p.m. the starting signal was given for the new carnival session in Donauwörth, an event that many have been looking forward to for weeks. The Fasching Donauwörth (IFD) initiative presented the new prince couples in a festive atmosphere, musically accompanied by Alm Gugga from Mönchsdeggingen. The event took place on the Tanzhaus forecourt, where the doors of the Tanzhauspassage were opened with an impressive drum roll, driving the atmosphere to its climax.

The focus of the evening was the new regents: the child prince couple, Princess Julia II (Julia Herreiner) and Moritz I (Moritz Thiem), and the big prince couple, consisting of Princess Eva “of the iron wings” (Eva Obst) and Prince Robin “of the second blow” (Robin Schmidtkunz). The latter not only celebrated their new role, but also their one-year anniversary as a couple. Interestingly, both of them belonged to a child prince couple 15 years ago, which underlines the connection to the carnival community.

A historic moment for the IFD

“Do nauf - Do naa” echoed through the streets as a ceremonial procession set off towards the town hall after the performance. Overshadowed by a little traffic chaos when the busy Reichsstraße had to be closed at short notice by the police and fire brigade, the new royal couple prepared to receive the town hall key from Mayor Jürgen Sorré. This moment marks the symbolic transition into the foolish time and is an important part of the tradition in Donauwörth.

The confidence that there would be a big prince couple this year was in doubt for a long time. The IFD had been persuaded to appoint new regents just a few weeks ago, which sparked a feeling of relief and joy among those present. For Robin in particular, returning to the role of the prince is a first, as he was already active a few years ago.

An evening full of surprises

The audience's reaction was overwhelming. After the congratulations, the Tanzhaus forecourt was transformed into an exuberant party area. People dancing everywhere and happy faces testify to the anticipation of the coming weeks of carnival. It is a new beginning for Donauwörth, and the hearts of the visitors beat to the rhythm of the carnival.

The IFD opened the carnival season with a lot of enthusiasm this year and is presenting a varied program. Now it remains to be seen what stories, confetti-filled parades and amusing events the next period will bring. One thing is certain: the carnival season in Donauwörth will once again be a very special experience!
