Serious motorcycle accident between Bachhagel and Wittislingen: Injured!

On Saturday morning, June 23, 2025, a serious traffic accident occurred between Bachhagel and Wittislingen, in which a 47-year-old motorcyclist on her KTM light motorcycle was seriously injured. At around 9:35 a.m., the woman lost control of her vehicle and crossed into the oncoming lane, where she collided with an oncoming car. Not only was the exterior mirror damaged in the impact, a second Passat was also unable to escape the dangerous situation and turned 180 degrees. Another vehicle, also a Passat, then crashed into the rotating car and was thrown onto its side in the grass verge. The minute-by-minute description of the events shows how dramatically and quickly such accidents can occur.

The motorcyclist suffered a lower leg injury and was flown to Augsburg University Hospital. Fortunately, the occupants of the second and third vehicles only suffered minor injuries and were treated on site. A 42-year-old first aider, who happened to be at the scene of the accident, looked after the injured motorcyclist until the emergency services arrived. The driver of the fourth vehicle suffered a forearm injury and was taken to the hospital in Heidenheim.

Damage and emergency response

The material damage is enormous: the motorcyclist's total economic loss is around 3,000 euros, while the damage to the third vehicle, a Passat, costs 12,000 euros. The fourth vehicle, also a Passat, is classified as a total economic loss worth 20,000 euros, and the second car also suffered damage worth 500 euros from the exterior mirror. The state road was closed in both directions while the accident was being investigated, and the fire brigades from Oberbechingen, Bachhagel and Burghagel were deployed to bring the situation under control.

Accidents like this highlight how dangerous motorcycling can be. According to analyzes by the ADAC, motorcycles are four times more likely to be involved in accidents than cars, and the accident rate for motorcyclists is seven times higher, according to current figures. Young drivers are particularly affected by serious accidents. Over 500 motorcyclists lose their lives on Germany's roads every year and almost 10,000 suffer serious injuries. The most common causes of accidents are incorrect behavior, overtaking errors and inappropriate speed. It is therefore particularly important for motorcyclists to carry out regular driving safety training and to always wear clearly visible protective clothing in order to protect themselves as best as possible.

Prevention and security

In addition to personal safety, infrastructure also plays a crucial role in preventing such accidents. Visibility and good road conditions are essential. Cost-effective measures such as cutting back vegetation or removing obstacles can make a significant contribution to road safety. Motorcyclists should also regularly check their vehicles and ensure that they are seated correctly during test rides to avoid potential difficulties while driving.

Given these circumstances, many motorcyclists are aware that good driving skills and following safety tips can protect not only themselves but also other road users to avoid accidents.

It remains to be hoped for everyone involved that the signs will become greener on the next journeys and that awareness of safety on the roads will increase.
