Deggendorf is planning a record budget for 2026: investments without new debts!

There is reason to be happy in Deggendorf: On December 3, 2025, the city council unanimously passed the budget statutes for the coming year. With a total volume of 141.12 million euros, this budget not only operates responsibly, but also achieves a new record investment level of over 29 million euros. For the 14th time in a row, the budget has been drawn up without any new debt, which is a real feat in the current financial situation. Mayor Dr. Christian Moser emphasizes how important this budget is for Deggendorf's financial foundations and future investments.

The budget is divided into 105.85 million euros for the administrative budget and 35.27 million euros for the asset budget. Interestingly, the district levy increases to around 28.5 million euros, the highest value in the city's history. This means the city meets its financial obligations while minimizing increases in expenses without considering fee increases or tax increases.

Investments in the education sector

A clear focus of the budget is on education. An impressive 6 million euros are planned for the first construction phase of the new school center on Pandurenweg. In addition, 800,000 euros will flow into the planning services for the second construction phase for the renovation of the Theodor Heuss middle school. The renovation and expansion of Mietraching elementary school will also continue, including the construction of a new gymnasium. In this way, Deggendorf is sending a strong signal for the future of its students.

Daycare centers and infrastructure

In the area of childcare, 3.45 million euros are available for the construction of a new daycare facility at the Städtische Elisabethenheim. The infrastructure is also getting a refresh: new construction of cycle paths and investments in drainage and sewage treatment plants are planned for a total of around 4.25 million euros. In addition, renovation measures are planned for the Oberen Stadtplatz and other projects in the Schaching redevelopment area.

The fire department is also not neglected. Big investments are planned here in new fire engines for the Seebach and Deggenau weirs as well as in the modernization of the hose washing system. So safety and security are at the top of the list.

A look at the municipal financial situation

In summary, it can be said that the 2026 budget not only creates a stable financial basis for Deggendorf, but also tackles numerous forward-looking projects in the areas of education, infrastructure and security. And all of this without new debt – that’s a real masterpiece in challenging times.
