Dispute over biogas plant in Hollfeld: residents outraged by noise!

Hollfeld, Deutschland - In Hollfeld, a dispute rages for the local biogas plant. Local residents complain that delivery traffic is now out of force, which leads to growing dissatisfaction. However, the operators of the facility and the city administration are not very insightful and cannot understand the symptoms. Michael Schatz, a farmer from the region and pioneer in the construction of biogas plants, describes the numerous advantages that biogas brings. In particular, the use of agricultural yields for the simultaneous production of food and energy is a central aspect for him.

At the political level, Bavaria's Environment Minister Thorsten Glauber makes it clear: "Bavaria is the heart for biogas in Germany". With around 2,550 biogas plants in the Free State and about 10,000 nationwide, he points out that not only the creation of jobs is promoted, but also secured the added value on site. He calls for a commitment to federal policy to use biogas, given the importance of this sector for German energy supply.

energy and economy

biogas plays an important role in the energy transition. The use of biomass enables a storable energy source that is also available with a lack of wind or sun. This flexibility is crucial to achieve the climate goals, since bioenergy makes a continuous contribution to energy supply. In 2020, around 23 % of the electricity from renewable energies was obtained in Germany by biomass, which is a significant amount.

In order to minimize the disadvantages of the area competition for food production, limits during corn cultivation for biogas plants were introduced. Another concern is the use of biogenic residues in order to reduce the dependence on certain energy plants. Despite these challenges, biogas use remains a central element for future energy supply in Bavaria and beyond.
