What a day for nature! On Friday, November 14, 2025, over 260 children from schools in Bayreuth got involved and together planted 7,000 trees in the student forest. This campaign, which was supported by the city garden department, took place on a former field at Schwedenbrücke. Around two hectares are now available for reforestation. The planting campaign is divided into a variety of tree species. A total of 7,000 seedlings from 19 different species are available. These include solid main tree species such as English, sessile and downy oaks as well as maples, nut trees, bird cherries, chestnuts and many more. This diversity ensures that the forest population is secured in the long term and can adapt well to the challenges of climate change. The selected tree species are well suited to compensate for the loss of forest area caused by newly created ponds in the student forest.
A healthy forest for the future
The seedlings, which are already around one meter high at the time of planting, will be further optimized through forestry care in the coming years. Weaker specimens are removed as needed to promote more robust, healthy trees. The city of Bayreuth has a good knack for securing biodiversity and at the same time increasing the resilience of the forest.
