Construction work has started for the Augustiner restaurant in the Old Bayreuth Palace
Something is happening in Bayreuth! The popular Augustiner brewery is starting construction work on its new restaurant in the historic Old Castle. Today the scaffolders are rushing to complete their work, while an impressive scaffolding and a construction crane have already been erected to create the necessary space for the upcoming restaurant. Loud courier Work on the roof of the future Augustiner restaurant began on Friday.
Approval for the construction was officially granted by the Bayreuth city administration. Mayor Thomas Ebersberger announced at the meeting of the urban development committee on September 16th that the Edith Haberland Wagner Foundation had successfully submitted the building application. In 2021, the foundation acquired the right wing of the Old Castle in order to set up an Augustinian restaurant here. A local innkeeper will run the new restaurant, which will certainly bring great joy among the locals.
Entrance solution causes headaches
But with so much anticipation, there are also challenges. Before the opening, some detailed questions must be clarified, especially the question of access to the restaurant. How Bayreuther Tagblatt reports, the stairs to the main courtyard have been a central problem for a year. The client favors a new access solution, which is necessary for architectural and monument preservation reasons. For this purpose, land registry protection would have to be achieved with the Free State of Bavaria, the current owner of the Ehrenhof.
Alternatively, the city suggests leaving the existing access at the corner of Ehrenhof and Maximilianstrasse. An agreement between the foundation and the city of Bayreuth is still pending, and the aim is to find a common solution in the next few weeks. It remains exciting to see whether everyone involved can come to an agreement in time to open the new restaurant as quickly as possible.
The next few months promise interesting developments for the Bayreuth gastronomy scene. A new Augustiner restaurant in the Old Castle could not only attract tourists, but also inspire local residents, who can look forward to cozy hours with a freshly tapped beer.
