Bayern star Vidovic moves to Dinamo Zagreb: A new beginning with number 10!
On June 17, 2025, FC Bayern Munich announced that Gabriel Vidovic, who is only 21 years old, would be sold to Croatian club Dinamo Zagreb. For Bayern, the transfer fee should be around two million euros, which can definitely be seen as good business for a talented player in this age group. Bayern has also secured a stake in a possible future sale of the player, which makes the deal even more attractive for the German record champions.
The decision to move to Zagreb was largely influenced by Zvonimir Boban, the club's new chairman. The former professional promised Vidovic a central role in the team, which certainly made the young talent's decision easier. Boban promised him that he would receive the number 10 shirt - a number that has historical significance in Zagreb and was once worn by Luka Modrić.
A step back and new opportunities
Gabriel Vidovic returns to a club where he has already scored an impressive 9 goals and 3 assists in 40 appearances on loan in the 2023/24 season. His potential move was of interest as Dinamo Zagreb will also be playing in the Europa League next season. This will give Vidovic the opportunity to prove himself again in international competition and possibly make it into the senior Croatian national team.
However, Vidovic hasn't played that often at Bayern Munich in recent years. Last season he only made four appearances in the Bundesliga and also spent the autumn season on loan in Mainz, where he was only allowed three minutes of playing time due to an injury. Despite interest from various clubs, including 1. FC Heidenheim, Genoa, Cagliari and RSC Anderlecht, the player ultimately decided to move to his old club. Bayern had rejected an offer of 3.5 million euros and instead agreed to sell the club for 1.2 million euros with a stake.
The background to the transfer
Zvonimir Boban is facing a shakeup at Dinamo Zagreb after the previous season didn't go as desired. With Vidovic, a player is brought in who is already well integrated into the team. The club has lost many players, while at the same time new ones are being signed to strengthen the team and achieve its sporting goals.
Transfer policy in football remains a dynamic issue. According to a recent report from Statista, transfer fees can vary greatly and only a few clubs are able to pay three-digit millions for players. In the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich recorded the highest transfer spending in 2024/2025 with a total of 149 million euros, which impressively underlines the money that is being spent on players willing to move.
Despite the challenges that arise in the transfer business, there remains hope for a successful new beginning for Gabriel Vidovic. The young player said goodbye to Bayern on his Instagram account and expressed his gratitude. Now he has the chance to continue his career in Zagreb and celebrate new successes.
