Burglar in Bamberg: Bloody traces lead to arrest!
A loud incident in Bamberg caused a stir and kept the investigative authorities on their toes. On the night of Friday, January 9th, 2026, the residents of a single-family home on St.-Getreu-Straße were woken up at 5:15 a.m. by a loud bang. The reason? A burglar tried to force his way into her home by breaking the window next to the front door. The police were immediately alerted and several patrols set out to investigate the incident. Wiesentbote reports on the exciting hours that followed.
Thanks to the police's keen investigation, officers were able to locate footprints and blood tracks in the snow that led to a nearby wooded area. A large-scale manhunt was launched. Finally, at 9 a.m., a 31-year-old Russian citizen was arrested and was believed to have injured his hands during the break-in. An arrest warrant for attempted serious residential burglary was issued at the request of the Bamberg public prosecutor's office.
Break-in-speaking in Bamberg
Interestingly, this incident is not isolated. In recent months, a habit has come into greater focus among certain strong people. Reports show that residents of an anchor center in Bamberg carried out a series of thefts in Germany in the first half of 2026. As BR reported, this group of men had committed over 300 burglaries in Bavaria, with unlocked cars being the main target.
The investigations against 25 suspects, of which 17 arrest warrants have been issued and ten have already been executed, show how seriously the authorities are taking the situation. The Upper Franconian police headquarters have solved the majority of the crimes with a special “Carport” investigative commission. This development has significantly reduced the number of thefts from vehicles, which is certainly also due to the increased police measures.
A look at the slump trend in Germany
The situation in Bamberg fits into a larger picture: residential burglaries are still very relevant in Germany. According to Statista, there were about 119,000 cases of home burglaries in 2023, which shows that the darkness of crime is not going away even in rural areas. There is a higher risk of burglary, especially in urban areas. However, Bavaria is considered one of the federal states with the lowest burglary rates, which means a certain level of protection for residents.
The clearance rate in Bavaria is 25.8%, which shows that the police are continuously working to increase the safety of citizens. The rate is highest in cities like Fürth, where some successful investigations have already been achieved. However, it remains important to be vigilant and act preventatively to ensure a safe living environment.
In Bamberg and far beyond the city limits, the issue of burglary and the associated crime remains a sport in which it is often up to the authorities to maintain control. It is to be hoped that the recent incidents and subsequent measures will lead to greater security.
