Bernadette Felsch: Green departure for more traffic safety in Münsing!

In Münsing everything revolves around movement – and not just in the figurative sense. Bernadette Felsch, who was nominated as the Green Party's mayoral candidate for the 2026 local elections, is passionate about improving road safety. Their extensive experience and knowledge of mobility could bring a breath of fresh air to the community. Felsch was chairwoman of the General German Bicycle Club (ADFC) in Bavaria for seven years until May 2025, where she gained valuable expertise on mobility topics.

Felsch was also the driving force behind the “Radentscheid Bayern” initiative, which launched a referendum in 2022 and 2023. The aim of this initiative was to bring about a cycling law that would not only double the cycling budget, but also promote the construction of cycle paths in rural areas. Despite the challenging framework conditions, such as the satisfactory cycling share of 10% of total transport performance, the share has only increased to 11% by 2022. A fact that is particularly important to Felsch.

A new cycling law for Bavaria

The cycling law, which came into force on August 1, 2023, aims to improve the quality of life in communities by optimizing the conditions for cyclists in Bavaria. The Bavarian state government plans to build 1,500 kilometers of new cycle paths by the end of 2030. Bayern.de highlights that around 245 km of cycle paths were built as early as 2023. However, implementation is not always as quick as the initiators would have liked. The deficiencies in cycle paths are still evident, especially in rural areas.

“There’s something there!” says Felsch, who is convinced that an open and honest exchange about mobility issues is necessary in order to respond to the needs of all citizens. She herself completed training as a travel agent in Freiburg and then studied administration and law in Hof and political science in Munich. With 24 years of experience in the state capital of Munich, including twelve years as a specialist in mayors' offices, she not only brings passion but also the necessary know-how.

Another concern of the cycling initiatives is to improve the cycling infrastructure in Munich and beyond. A one-euro ticket for taking bikes on public transport was introduced, but there were numerous restrictions that make it less attractive. Here too, there is still a lot to be done, emphasizes Felsch and wants citizens to be able to actively participate in shaping the community.

The future of cycling in Bavaria

The founding of the Bavarian Cycling Alliance is planned as a round table on cycling topics. The initiative aims to involve citizens more closely in the planning processes and further improve the infrastructure. Citizens' initiatives for better cycling infrastructure have already been launched in 11 Bavarian cities, but the implementation of these plans is often slow. The latest developments show that the CSU, which rejected a cycling law from 2017 to the beginning of 2023, has now experienced a change of opinion due to the high level of support for the cycling decision. However, the question remains as to how quickly and efficiently the upcoming cycle paths can be implemented.

Bernadette Felsch is determined to initiate lasting change in the 2026 local elections. Their vision includes not only improving cycling, but also active participation in the community where every voice counts. “This is important for all of us!” she emphasizes.

The citizens of Münsing can be excited to see how the traffic situation and cycling infrastructure will develop in the coming years. Ultimately, vibrant and safe cycling is the key to a better quality of life in the community.
