Bad Tölz is building a fascinating sensory arena for inclusive playgrounds!

There is a lot going on in the charming town of Bad Tölz when it comes to child-friendly facilities. Five years ago, Ingo Mehner was elected mayor and has since then worked hard to transform Bad Tölz into a “playable city”. A central element of his concept is the modernization of the playgrounds and the expansion of activities for children to meet the needs of the little ones. Süddeutsche.de reports that the newest attraction, the sensory arena, was inaugurated on Albert-Schäffenacker-Straße. This innovative play option is 4.15 meters high and 10 meters long, installed on stable box foundations and impresses with its frame made of five galvanized steel arches equipped with various nets.

What's special? The new Sensory Arena is accessible to children of all ages. However, the upper nets are only intended for children aged five and over. Inclusive design was also taken into account: a nest swing is available for children with physical disabilities, while the fall protection makes it possible for children with limited mobility to go around the scaffolding in a wheelchair-friendly manner. The costs for this enrichment amount to 95,330 euros. Franz Spät, the municipal social planner, supervises the entire “Playable City” project and ensures that inclusion is a priority when designing the playground in Taubenloch. In addition, Lebenshilfe integrated visual stimuli for visually impaired children.

Expansion of the playground offering

Just a month ago, the pirate playground on the Isar promenade was expanded to include an impressive climbing tower. This tower has an impressive height of seven meters and is complemented by a 10.80 meter long tube slide, which promises a real adventure for the children. The city has invested around 140,000 euros in this new fun game. There are also further plans on the agenda for the coming year: a new playground equipment in the community garden is in the pipeline, which increases the anticipation of even more fun in the game.

The mayor's plans and his commitment show that Bad Tölz is not only a place for nature lovers, but also a place where children's hearts beat faster. The concept not only plays with different play equipment, but also ensures social participation for all children through challenging challenges and inclusive approaches - and that is something that is very important in our modern society.

Nowadays it is important that venues create awareness of diversity. This makes it clear that the city of Bad Tölz is setting a good example. In a world in which modern technologies such as the World Wide Web are becoming increasingly important, the focus on real outdoor experiences remains of great importance. Wikipedia describes, that the World Wide Web is a collection of documents connected by hyperlinks and in the context of this project we should ensure that children are also connected in real life - playfully, creatively and, above all, inclusively.
