Transylvanian Fire Department Weismain wins the challenge cup in the competition!
The Weismain volunteer fire department won big at the 22nd Upper Franconian competitive march and secured the challenge cup. The event took place as part of the 150th anniversary of the Berg fire department from the Hof district and attracted a total of 79 groups from Upper and Middle Franconia. This impressive number of participants shows how popular such competitions are among fire departments. District Fire Brigade Association Chairman Hermann Schreck warmly welcomed the participants to the festival tent and initiated an exciting competition that put the firefighters' strength and knowledge to the test. MainPost reports on a packed program that promoted both the ambition and the cohesion of the armed forces.
A look at the competition route reveals what awaited the participants. Over a distance of 6.8 km, 12 stations had to be completed, which were challenging with a variety of tasks. These ranged from test questions from the fire department to practical exercises such as coupling a suction pipe to challenges in extinguishing fires.
A look into the past
Not the first time such events have taken place. Numerous teams, including the Wallenfels fire department with two groups, took part in the 17th performance march in Mainleus on May 13th. The first group of Wallenfelsers was able to reach 18th place with 67 penalty points and also secure a trophy, while the second group completed their tasks with commitment. The Wallenfels fire department brings back the memories of this exciting day and shows that smaller groups can also make a significant contribution.
Thomas Reuter, who has been in charge of the competitions department in the German Fire Brigade Association since March 2023, is considered to be particularly prominent in the area of fire brigade competitions. Reuter, whose roots extend to the Böblingen Volunteer Fire Department, brings his extensive knowledge and experience to the area of competitions and has already taken part in numerous international fire brigade competitions. The Fire Brigade Association highlights the importance of such events for the cohesion and expertise of the emergency services.
The fire departments' commitment to both competing in their craft and promoting community is evident not only in Weismain, but everywhere firefighters come together. The performance march is a wonderful opportunity to strengthen team spirit and hone participants' skills. In every corner of Bavaria there are numerous stories that tell of the passion and zeal of firefighters - a good reason to continue taking part in such competitions and celebrating togetherness.
