New in office: Forestry manager Droste talks about wind power in the district!
In the Augsburg district there is a breath of fresh air at the top of the state forestry company. Rainer Droste, who has been the forestry manager since May 2025, recently met with District Administrator Martin Sailer at the district office. The aim of the visit was to get to know each other and to talk about current topics in the state forest. The meeting provided the opportunity to discuss the priorities and challenges that need to be addressed locally.
The main focus of the discussions was the expansion of wind energy in the state forest. District Administrator Sailer emphasized the important role that close cooperation between the district and the Bavarian State Forests plays in the implementation of renewable energies. “The sustainable management of our forests and the promotion of wind power are key future tasks that affect us all,” he emphasized. The current status of regional planning for wind power in the district was also discussed.
In addition to the wind, also the protection of the landscape
Droste, who is also a member of the nature conservation advisory board in the Augsburg district, made important comments on the topic of landscape protection. “It is crucial to keep the sensitive landscape protection areas and nature parks in mind in any planning,” says Droste. This perspective is also clear in the context of the decision of the Regional Planning Association (RPV) to achieve the area targets for wind power. Currently, the use of wind power is only possible in specified areas and the planning process has not yet been completed. Future changes in the law could affect the area designations.
Both sides agreed to continue dialogue and exchange on these important issues. “It's about having a good hand for the balance between nature conservation and the use of renewable energies,” added Sailer, giving an outlook on the necessary discussions that will follow in the near future.
The Zusmarshausen State Forestry Company is one of 41 forestry companies in the Bavarian State Forests and looks after the state forests in the western part of the Augsburg district and neighboring areas. In the interests of climate protection and organic farming, new ideas are urgently needed in order to sustainably master the challenges of the present and future.
All in all, the meeting between Droste and Sailer shows that the course is being set for future-oriented forestry in the Augsburg district. The cooperation between nature conservation and wind energy will play a central role. Let us look forward to seeing what progress will be made on this important matter in the near future.
