Beljo back in Augsburg: FCA relies on new offensive power!
FC Augsburg has made some exciting personnel decisions in the last few days. With Elias Saad and Robin Fellhauer, the club has signed two new faces who are supposed to bring a breath of fresh air into the team. However, the focus is on an old friend: Dion Beljo, who is returning to Rapid Vienna after a loan and is now expected at the start of training in Augsburg.
Beljo, a 22-year-old attacker, was signed by NK Osijek for three million euros in the winter of 2022/23. In his first season with Augsburg he lacked a bit of luck as he was only able to score five goals in a total of 44 Bundesliga games. He saw no prospects under coach Jess Thorup and was therefore given on loan to Rapid Vienna. The striker really blossomed there, scoring ten goals in the league and five in the Conference League last season, which makes his return to Augsburg all the more interesting. Rapid Vienna were unable to exercise the option to buy Beljo, which was reportedly between €7m and €9m, and a low loan fee was also payable.
Change of coach and new tactics
New coach Sandro Wagner has already spoken to Beljo and plans to use him as a hanging leader in a 3-4-4 system. FCA already has several strikers in the squad, including Samuel Essende, Phillip Tietz and Steve Mounié. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen whether Beljo and fellow offensive player Mert Kömür, whose contract runs until 2027 and an extension is being negotiated until 2029, show enough potential to make the search for additional players unnecessary.
Especially in this summer transfer period, FC Augsburg is planning to sign two to four new players. Beljo and Kömür could potentially stabilize the squad in attack and support the already creative search on the transfer market. FCA is known for its ability to develop talent and Beljo's return could prove to be a real stroke of luck.
The forecast for the coming season
It seems that the next season will be exciting for FC Augsburg. With a talented squad and a breath of fresh air on the sidelines, the team could significantly increase its chances of a successful season. Coach Sandro Wagner is optimistic about the challenges ahead and plans to use the strengths of his players to create a powerful team.
For Beljo himself it is a crucial phase. His market value has fallen from 6.5 million to 4 million euros, but despite all this he could have been the most valuable professional in the Rapid squad. The chances are good that he will take the next step in his career in Augsburg and establish himself as a key player in a newly formed team. The fans can be excited to see what the young striker can show in the coming season.
