Hit-and-run on the A3: Two injured – police are looking for witnesses!
On Wednesday, November 12, 2025, around 10 a.m. there was a terrible accident on the A3 between the Weibersbrunn and Bessenbach junctions, in which two people were injured. A 53-year-old man suffered serious injuries, while a 51-year-old fortunately only sustained minor injuries. However, the background to the incident is anything but pleasant, because the driver who was involved in a collision with a truck committed a hit-and-run and left the two injured people behind, as inFranken reports.
According to previous investigations, the fugitive's car crashed into the rear of a tractor-trailer. Fortunately, the truck driver was uninjured and was able to bring his vehicle to a stop on the shoulder. However, the police found the crashed car in a nearby parking lot where the two injured people were. It can be assumed that the slightly injured passenger was under the influence of alcohol, which is particularly precarious given the current discussions about alcohol bans on the roads.
Hit and run and drunk driving
Police are currently trying to determine who was driving the car at the time of the accident. The fact is that alcohol is a main cause of serious traffic accidents. The German Road Safety Council (DVR) has therefore long been calling for a general ban on alcohol for all road users. Looking at the figures from 2024, accidents involving alcohol occurred on average every 15 minutes in Germany, resulting in 198 deaths and over 17,000 injuries. Manfred Wirsch, the President of the DVR, emphasized: “No drunk driving – ever” and reiterated the need for clear rules on alcohol consumption on the road. The incident on the A3 fits seamlessly into this problem, as it once again highlights the dangers of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The latest road safety campaign, “Get off the gas,” which placed posters on motorways and rest stops, is intended to make the population aware of the risks. The legal situation is clear: from 0.3 per mille you are relatively unfit to drive, although from 0.5 per mille you can face fines and points. If you have more than 1.1 per mille you are even liable to prosecution. The slightly injured man from the accident could potentially face problems here.
Severity of road traffic accidents
The current situation also illustrates how important preventive measures are. On Bavaria's roads, many drivers are often careless and endanger not only themselves, but also other road users. The DVR appeals to everyone: “If you drive, don’t drink – and if you drink, don’t drive.”
In summary, the incident on the A3 shows how quickly tragic consequences can arise from a moment of carelessness. The injured, especially the seriously injured 53-year-old, now face not only physical but also psychological challenges. Police investigations are ongoing and it is hoped that such accidents can be prevented in the future through a stricter ban on alcohol.
