FC Amberg overruns Etzenricht: A shock for the district league!

On Tuesday evening, the eagerly awaited test match between SV Etzenricht and FC Amberg took place at the Siegfried Merkel sports field. For Etzenricht, who is currently proudly leading the Northern District League, this duel was a first tough test in preparation for re-entry into the Central Regional League. FC Amberg, on the other hand, is looking for a new beginning after the team was relegated from the regional league and is starting the race with a new coaching team consisting of Mario Zitzmann and Friedrich Lieder. Both are only 34 years old, but already have a lot of experience. Zitzmann had previously been happy in Auerbach and Lieder was active as a manager in his previous clubs.

The last meeting between the two teams ended with a great victory for Etzenricht, which secured promotion. But this time the tide was about to turn. In the test match that took place on Monday evening, Etzenricht ultimately had to admit defeat by a clear 5-1. Although the hosts started the game well and took the lead with an early goal from Bastian Strehl in the 9th minute, Amberg's equalizer came in the 44th minute with an own goal from Etzenricht, which turned the tide for Amberg.

FC Amberg remains in control

The second half clearly belonged to FC Amberg. With a unified team performance and a clear plan, they delivered impressive moves. Alex Kloos netted in the 48th minute before Elias Thiem struck twice in the 73rd and 82nd minutes. Max Witzel scored the final point in the 85th minute. Coach Andreas Scheler used a total of 18 players during the game to bring fresh talent into the game and give everyone the opportunity to develop further.

After the game, Andreas Wendl, player-coach of SV Etzenricht, said he was quite satisfied with the first half, but emphasized the need to improve the defensive performance in the second half. “We kept up well in the first 45 minutes, but after the break we lost control,” said Wendl. Despite the defeat, Wendl took positives from a recent tournament in Luhe-Wildenau, where the defensive performance and a penalty shootout against SpVgg SV Weiden stood out.

The look ahead

There are now further challenges ahead for Etzenricht: The next test match is against SpVgg Pfreimd on Friday, July 10th, and here too the team wants to prove that they have not lost their fighting spirit. FC Amberg, on the other hand, will prepare for the next competition game against TSV Seebach in the Landesliga Mitte on Saturday and hopes to be able to use the good form from the test match.

SV Etzenricht will continue to prepare intensively for the coming season, even if some players in the squad are currently suffering from minor injuries, which means that the line-up cannot be determined until match day. One player who has stood out particularly well recently is goalkeeper Ludwig Steinhilber, who shone in the penalty shootouts to secure important points for his team.

Overall, it remains to be seen how both teams will develop and whether FC Amberg can turn things around with its new coaching team. The fans can look forward to the upcoming games!
