Wittelsbacher Realschule Aichach: New extension for a bright future!
It was a special day in Aichach: On November 13, 2025, the completely renovated extension of the Wittelsbach secondary school was ceremoniously inaugurated. Among those present was an illustrious group, including architect Dominik Endres, mayor Klaus Habermann, state parliament member Peter Tomaschko and school principal Sabine Kreutle. Also District Administrator Dr. Klaus Metzger didn't miss the opportunity to celebrate this momentous occasion.
The extensive construction work, which costs a total of 18.75 million euros, has changed the building not only externally but also internally. Around 8 million euros were added in state funding. “We dismantled the building down to the shell and rebuilt it using modern materials and contemporary technology,” explained Endres at the inauguration.
A new face for education
The extension of the secondary school was urgently needed as the number of pupils has increased. With a net floor space of almost 3,000 m², the new structure not only offers more space, but also modern specialist rooms for biology, music and drawing. The building technology is state-of-the-art and ensures a high energy efficiency standard of 55+.
The design of the extension relies on light and a subtle color scheme, which is intended to create a friendly atmosphere. The new façade, which extends over 1,500 m², features thermally insulated timber frame walls and triple-glazed windows, which not only beautify the building but also help reduce energy costs.
- Neuer Kommunikations- und Begegnungsraum in der Gebäudemitte.
- 14 Klassenzimmer mit flexiblen Intensivierungsräumen in den Obergeschossen.
- Aufstockung in Holz-Tafelbauweise mit Holzdachdecke.
- Gründach mit mechanischer Lüftungsanlage und Photovoltaik.
- Behinderungsgerechter Zugang und moderne Brandschutzmaßnahmen.
Those responsible are particularly proud of the barrier-free access and the additional structural escape route. The outdoor facilities have also been redesigned and now offer play, sports and lounge areas. In addition, the bicycle parking areas and the connections to the Deutschherren-Gymnasium and bus station were expanded.
A look into the future
Construction work started during the 2023 summer holidays and was completed in time for the start of the 2025 school year. This not only shows the commitment of the city of Aichach, but also the interaction of all those involved who worked together here in the spirit of education.
At a time when educational institutions are coming under increasing pressure, the city of Aichach's commitment is a shining example of future-oriented planning and implementation. This means that not only the students but also the teachers are optimally prepared for the challenges of the present.
The inauguration of the new extension clearly shows that education is very important here, and the new look of the Wittelsbach secondary school is a step in the right direction. It remains to be seen how the new premises will impact learning and teaching.
